Editor's Corner

Welcome to the spring edition, and the first launching of the USAF Aikido News. Though it was our intention that this edition be published on the new site, the migration will take a few more days so your patience is greatly appreciated. Please check in some time next week to visit the newsleter's new home at www.usafaikidonews.com

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the chief instructors who were so diligent about returning their 2008 dojo renewals to me before the deadline. It was the most successful and timely renewal process yet, and your efforts are applauded!

There are two important announcements that I would like to make: 1, in order to benefit from the early registration fee for Summer Camp, you need to mail your forms and fees in by June 1st, which is right around the corner. So please visit our site for the quickest and easiest online registration process at www.usaikifed.com. 2, A fund raiser is now underway to help celebrate Yamada Sensei's 70th birtday. A fabulous poster commemorating the 125th birthday of O Sensei is now for sale for $20 and ready to ship to you in about 2 weeks, the proceeds of which will go towards Yamada Sensei's birthday gift.

This beautiful 12"x18" poster is made up of hundreds of tiny photographs of Yamada Sensei and other Shihan and Shidoin, and is a great way to both contribute to the gift for Yamada Sensei, and to enjoy a unique poster made by Collen Bothwell, a long time student of Yamada Sensei's at the New York Aikikai.

There has been muchf progress made on the interactive members website. You can now access all testing forms and renewal forms. I have recently added a section for dan grade applications, listing the dates that they are mailed in to Hombu Dojo. I hope this helps your understanding of the turn-around time necessray for receiving the dan certificates, as well as to help avoid any administrative errors which would result in delayed processing. I hope to have the USAF Handbook up in the near future as well. As this site is a work-in-progress and is meant to benefit our members, please let me know if you have any thoughts or comments as we proceed.

Thank you once again to all who contributed to this newsletter. The next edition will be online September 15th 2008, so take notes, take pictures and stay in touch!
